1. And you may ask yourself, "Well... how did I get here?" (Tell us your journey?)
I grew up in the Finger Lakes region of New York. If you know anything about that area, you know that the old-growth forests are among the most beautiful in the country, and that was my backyard. I was able to foster a love for the outdoors from a young age that has stuck with me to this day.
Moving into the collegiate years, I wanted to gain the skills needed to protect the forests that I grew to love. I chose to study Natural Resources, focusing on the law that governed access to and managed public land. However, I quickly found that I needed a faster-paced environment and was able to utilize my background to work for a data analytics software company.
I found a new passion in software, the problem-solving mindset fit my personality, and I’ve been lucky enough to enjoy working in the industry since. I am thrilled to have the opportunity to tie my passion for the environment and for software in my position here at Persefoni.
2. And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile. (What do you do at Persefoni?)
I am a Product Manager at Persefoni; my role focuses on designing the best possible user experience with our platform. I enjoy listening to our customers and customer-facing team members to understand the needs and concerns that they face throughout the carbon accounting journey. I aim to ensure that our product is able to both intuitively educate and report on an organisation’s carbon footprint so that customers are able to understand exactly how their business decisions directly affect their emissions.
3. And you may ask yourself, "Where does that highway go to?" (What are your hopes for your time at Persefoni?)
I hope that my time at Persefoni enables me to understand the barriers preventing organisations from achieving their decarbonisation goals so that we are able to partner with these organisations to remove and mitigate those barriers. I hope that soon, all organisations will not only be required to release their carbon footprint but will be proud to release their carbon footprint. I hope that Persefoni enables organisations to provide their consumers with data on the products they purchase and are able to share with their consumers an understanding of all that went into delivering that product to them.
4. And you may say to yourself, "My God! What have I done?" (Why is Persefoni a great home for you?)
Being able to work with a group of people that all have the same goal is incredibly motivating. I am encouraged that despite the variations in everyone’s backgrounds, skills, and mindsets, we all have the same passion for humanity and our planet. I believe that we should do all we can to quickly mitigate our negative effects on the environment, and being surrounded by people that I know feel the same makes me want to work harder than ever.
5. And you may find yourself in another part of the world... (Tell us about your life/hobbies away from work?)
Those that know me well may believe that my hobby is collecting hobbies. I love learning about new ways to spend my free time in athletic, creative, and social outlets.
Volleyball has been a major part of my life since beginning the sport in elementary school. Colorado has amazing year-round opportunities for me to continue to grow in this pastime and nourish my love of friendly competition.
I am fortunate that my family has always emphasized the power of creativity and channeled that thinking through creative hobbies. I’m thankful that I am able to carry these skills with me today through my love of sewing, macrame, and other fiber arts.
Lastly, I love spending time with my dogs. We have three adopted German Shepherd mixes who frequently explore Colorado’s mountains, trails, and waterbodies. When we’re not traveling, our family fosters dogs and I would recommend the experience to anyone who is considering fostering; it is incredibly rewarding.
