Getting to know Persefoni: Meet Michael Rowell

"Once in a Lifetime"

1. And you may ask yourself, "Well... how did I get here?" (Tell us your journey?)
I’ve spent a career building/rebuilding marketing organizations for software companies. Living in Houston means this work was largely in the Energy sector, with a brief stint at an automotive MarTech agency. It was at one of these energy companies that I met and befriended Persefoni's chief design officer Jonathan Strand. When he texted and said, “Dude, we gotta talk. Let me buy you lunch,” I immediately said yes – who turns down free food?! A few conversations with (Persefoni CEO) Kentaro later, and here I am helping enable every organization and person with the technology to positively impact the health of planet Earth.

2. And you may find yourself behind the wheel of a large automobile. (What do you do at Persefoni?)
I lead our efforts in PR and Marketing, working alongside a diverse team of really talented people; together, we are the Persefoni storytellers. Whether it’s an article in Fast Company, our winning Pitch Competition at SXSW, planning our participation at virtual/physical industry events, or developing product marketing and lead gen campaigns – we help get the word out about all the great work our teams are doing. Together, we are building an entirely new category of software that is positively impacting the health of our planet.
3. And you may ask yourself, "Where does that highway go to?" (What are your hopes for your time at Persefoni?)
Persefoni is already an incredible mix of diverse talent, market opportunity, and a little bit of magic; the chemistry here is electric, and a lot of that credit can be attributed directly to Kentaro’s vision. It’s my hope we continue growing this company into something great and meaningful ... a firm that helps demonstrably impact our planet for the better. Toward this effort, I want to build a PR and Marketing practice that other organizations point to as an example of what to do right – and just as importantly, have a BLAST while doing it all.

4. And you may say to yourself, "My God! What have I done?" (Why is Persefoni a great home for you?)
Simple: it’s the culture and the people. So many companies tout their "values and culture", but so few actually live them out. The people at Persefoni do, and it’s a joy to be building this with them. On a personal note: as a gay man, Persefoni's core value of Equality is particularly meaningful. Persefoni even goes so far as to take the International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia as a company-wide holiday. It’s refreshing to work at a place where we can all bring our whole selves to work without fear.

5. And you may find yourself in another part of the world... (Tell us about your life/hobbies away from work?)
I’m a classically trained tenor and enjoy singing all types of music: from pop to opera to oratorio to musical theatre. However, the pandemic has afforded me little opportunity to sing outside of the house, where at least one of our three Australian Shepherds will join in. Aside from singing, I love to cook and eat – whether it’s a five-course meal at home or a night out at one of Houston’s many excellent restaurants, I’m definitely a foodie! I’m also a connoisseur of good gin, great scotch, and fine cigars.
